PHILIPPE - Danslärare
An Ottawa Canada native, Philippe started dancing at the age of ten at Greta Leeming Studio of Dance before advancing his studies at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School Professional Division.
After graduating, he continued in the school’s post-secondary aspirant program where he on occasion performed and toured internationally in many of the RWB Company’s productions, such as Twyla Tharp’s The Princess and the Goblin, and Jorden Morris’ Moulin Rouge The Ballet.
His desire to expand his knowledge of movement creation processes led him to participate in programs such as the Nederlands Danz Theatre Summer and Springboard Danse Montréal. These experiences broadened his view of dance and gave him the opportunity to learn works by choreographers such as Crystal Pite, Jiri Kylian and Stijn Celis.
After his post-secondary, he assumed the role of choreographer and artistic coordinator for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School. He was responsible for coordinating the Manitoba implementation of the National dance accessibility initiative, Sharing Dance as well as the competition, First Steps. As a choreographer for the ballet school he choreographed for “Spotlight” and “On The Edge.” As an ardent believer in dance as a medium of connection and community, his meaningful works like “Text Me” (2015), in collaboration with Beyond Borders ECPAT Canada, has brought attention to the issue of the sexual exploitation of children. His works also extend to Gearshifting Performance Works and Q Dance.
